My Story - About Your Tutor

My name is Desiree Pagan. Some students call me Ms. P for short. I was born and raised in the Bronx. I graduated from Mercy College with a Master's degree. I received a Dual certification in Bilingual Special Education/General Education. I have been offering comprehensive and affordable private lessons within the five boroughs in New York City since 2003.  From day one my students notice the Improvement in their abilities and overall comprehension. The fact that I could possibly impact a young person’s life is exciting and rewarding to me. My primary reason why I decided to pursue this career is because I feel the strong desire to positively influence and educate children. I feel that one of the major satisfaction of being a teacher is to enrich a student’s life. I recognize that patience, understanding, listening, compassion, and sensitivity are essential to this profession, which I am wholeheartedly prepared to provide. My first teaching experience taught me a lot about what it means to be a teacher and a lot about myself, as a future educator. Throughout my teaching experience in the Bronx, I faced many highs and lows challenges. Many were good, as well as some were bittersweet. First thing I observed on my first day of teaching, is certain that each student has a unique learning style,  and it is my duty to find out what that is and adapt my lessons accordingly. Teaching isn’t all about learning the ABC’s, 123’s reading, or writing excellent essays. It’s about getting to know your students well, and communicating. Everyday is different and exciting. As a teacher/Tutor, one of the most  important thing  is to have  a Positive relationship with my  students. If the relationship is strong, instructional strategies will be more effective.  My ultimate goal is to ensure student learning, the ability to build caring relationships and fostering positive relationships. By gaining  my students trust,  giving them confidence,  making sure students know they are cared about, showing them that their voice matters,  has made me an outstanding, pleasant teacher.

“Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn”.

WHY I ENJOY TEACHING

Because each day is different, challenging, & new.

I enjoy watching the children love learning like I do!

Teaching children is a calling from above,  and it has made my teaching experience meaningful and filled with love.

Because sharing my knowledge with others is very rewarding.

Because I'm warm,  humble, enthusiastic, and caring

The more that you read, The more things you will know. The more that you learn, The more places you’ll go.
